Tesla Confirms A New Model 3 Performance Is On The Way

Tesla refreshed the Model 3 earlier this year and Tesla will launch the potent Performance variant of the refreshed Model 3 soon, a representative for the company told CarSales.com.au last week. The automaker said that the Model 3 Performance would arrive in the first half of next year and be something "special."

The automaker told CarSales.com.au that it hadn't fully realized the car's potential with the first iteration, and it hopes to rectify those misses with this updated model. The current Model 3 Performance can already hit 60 miles per hour in 3.1 seconds while offering up to 315 miles of range on a single charge.

The contrast between the new Model 3 and the current Model Y are obvious before you even leave the parking lot. Walking up to both cars, the exterior panel gaps on the Model 3 are noticeably better. Climb in and close the door and you can hear the difference, too. The Model 3's doors close with a more satisfying thunk than the Model Y's.

Indications of better build quality don't stop there. The panel gaps inside the Model 3 are better than the Model Y's (though still not perfect), while the Y's (and old 3's) standard cheap-looking fake wood and optional metal-look trim are gone, replaced with rich-looking fabric. The dashboard and door panels front and rear are covered in better-looking soft-touch materials and topped with a wraparound ambient lighting strip that goes all the way to the back. Pay for the interior upgrade and the new car features white faux leather not just on the seats like the Model Y but up the door panels and onto the dash.

The 2024 Model Y is Tesla's compact crossover SUV. It was one of the first fully electric compact crossovers to hit the market, and it is essentially the standard by which all other entrants in the segment are judged, and for good reason. It's spacious and relatively comfortable, it comes with plenty of range and power, and it's packed with plenty of technology features that most Tesla owners love.
